Genryu Musashi is a brand born from the will of Huhou Hirata,17th-generation descendant of Musashi Miyamoto’s birth family
and Kendo 8th Dan Master.
With the spirit of the legendary swordsman at its core,the brand is committed to creating and delivering Japan’s highest-quality craftsmanship to the world.
Grounded in Musashi’s philosophy of “seeing the true essence beyond form,”Genryu Musashi selects only the finest products Japan has to offer and presents them as expressions of cultural excellence.
This includes the flagship Japanese sake “Genryu Musashi” as well as specialty goods rooted in Musashi’s birthplace, Mimasaka, Okayama.
Musashi Miyamoto
Born in Miyamoto Village, Sakushu (present-day Mimasaka City, Okayama Prefecture).
Father: Munisai Hirata (Shinmen Munisai).
Musashi was a master swordsman, strategist, and artist who reportedly fought over sixty duels in his lifetime without defeat.
His legendary duel against Sasaki Kojiro on Ganryu Island at the age of 29 is world-renowned.
In his later years, Musashi stopped dueling and focused on the arts—
producing calligraphy, paintings, and wooden sculptures—
and wrote his celebrated treatise “The Book of Five Rings.”

Huhou Hirata
Hirata Huhou was born in August 1942 in the Miyamoto district of Mimasaka, as the 17th-generation descendant of Musashi’s grandfather, Hirata Shogen.
After graduating from Nihon University (1969),
he served as an officer in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, holding key posts including Chief of Otsuka Police Station, Head of the Criminal Investigation Division,
and other major positions until his retirement in 2001.
He later became an advisor at Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd.,
and in 2010 received Buddhist ordination at Mount Koya,
taking the name Tomine.
He served as President of the Japan Kendo Association and as a Kendo Master at Meiji Jingu Shiseikan.
He held the rank of Kendo 8th Dan and received the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Rays (2019).

“Genryu Musashi” is a brand named after the renowned swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, whose family entrusted us with calligraphy from the 17th-generation head, Mr. Hirata Tomine.
It is brewed by Tanaka Shuzojo, a long-established brewery founded in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture in 1835.
This rare vintage is crafted from the legendary Kamenoo rice, polished to a 7% rice polishing ratio over 170 hours, and aged for an extended period at 0°C.

The rice planned for the Genryu Musashi lineup
is cultivated in Mimasaka, Okayama,
the land of Musashi’s birth family lineage.
In this region, local produce—
including rice and traditional prepared foods—
has been preserved through generations
alongside the history of Musashi’s birth family.
Although not yet widely distributed,
these products are being carefully refined
to be released under the Genryu Musashi brand
as “the very best Japan can offer.”
